Foreign Tax Withholding on Sale Transactions

Feature request Allow the ability to enter in Withholding tax components per sale order. This may be relevant for Australian brokerages, but is especially relevant for (at least) US transactions and maybe other countries as well. Area (pick one) Chosen area: Tax and Reporting Tax & reporting Why does this matter? What problem does it solve? In particular, for users that have not completed their W8-BEN form for US transactions, there is a significant percentage of tax that will be taken from the transaction. The transaction value is the total of price per (share x quantity x exchange rate) - brokerage. However, this is not the value received due to the Foreign Tax withholding. For tax reporting purposes, this number needs to be factored into the Foreign Tax Withholding fields (or equivalent), as tax already paid. What should it look like? Describe the outcome you want. Additional Field to optionally include Foreign Tax Withholding (similar to the fields that would be available in the Dividend pages for US shares. The dividend form has the following field 'Foreign Tax Withheld/Offset (USD)' Example (optional) NOTE: My allocation of exchange rates might be off, but hope you get the idea. Quantity: 10 Cost Price per share (USD): 50.00 Sale Price per share (USD): 100.00 Sale Date Exchange Rate (AUD/USD): 0.65 Brokerage (USD): 20.00 Sale Value (AUD): 100x10/0.65 - 20/0.65 = $1,507.69 Profit (USD): ([100x10] - [50x10]) = $500 Profit (AUD): $500/0.65 = $769.23 Tax Withheld (USD): $500x0.30 (or whatever the tax rate is) = $150 Tax Withheld (AUD): $150/0.65 = $230.77 Total Received (AUD): (500-150)/0.65 = $538.46 While $769.23 (AUD) is the 'profit', this is not the received amount. $230.77 (AUD) should be available as a Foreign Tax Withheld calculation in the Tax Reporting season Without this ability, the Tax Reporting calculations will be missing valuable data, making manual actions required.
