Benchmarking and performance suggestions for multi-asset portfolios

I’ve recently started using Navexa to track my SMSF and have been very impressed with the platform. My SMSF is a genuinely multi-asset portfolio rather than a conventional share portfolio, and using it has highlighted a few features that I think would make Navexa considerably more useful for investors with portfolios like mine. My portfolio currently consists broadly of private credit (\~59%), listed equities (\~23%) and alternative investments (\~18%). I’ve created Custom Groups for these asset classes, which works very well, but benchmarking a portfolio structured this way is more difficult. 1. Allow multiple benchmarks for the overall portfolio It would be useful to be able to select and display more than one benchmark simultaneously in Benchmark Analysis. For example, I may want to compare my SMSF against the S&P/ASX 200, another market index/ETF and potentially an absolute return target. At present, selecting a single benchmark means changing it whenever I want a different comparison. Ideally, the performance chart could display the portfolio plus two or three selected benchmarks concurrently. 2. Allow a different benchmark for each Custom Group This would be particularly valuable for multi-asset portfolios. My Custom Groups are: Private Credit Equities Alternative Investments Using the same benchmark for all three isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison. My equity investments can reasonably be compared with an equity-market benchmark, whereas my private-credit investments have objectives based on the RBA cash rate plus a margin, and my alternative investment has its own absolute-return objective. It would be extremely useful if Custom Groups could optionally have their own benchmark. Then when filtering or viewing Performance Breakdown/Benchmark Analysis by group, Navexa could automatically use the benchmark assigned to that group. This would make Custom Groups much more powerful for SMSFs and other diversified portfolios. 3. Add an absolute-return benchmark I’d also like the ability to create a benchmark such as: 8% p.a., 10% p.a., RBA cash rate + 5%, or RBA cash rate + 6%. My SMSF has an 8% p.a. long-term return hurdle and a 10%+ p.a. target. Neither is naturally represented by an ETF or index. A configurable absolute benchmark that compounds over time would allow investors to answer a very simple but important question: Is my portfolio achieving the return objective I established for it? Even better would be support for floating benchmarks such as RBA cash + X%, which are commonly used by private-credit and absolute-return funds. 4. Allow a blended/custom portfolio benchmark For diversified portfolios, perhaps the most useful enhancement would be a benchmark constructed from several components. For example, an investor could specify something conceptually like: 25% equity benchmark + 60% cash/private-credit benchmark + 15% absolute-return benchmark. Navexa could then calculate this as one blended benchmark and display it alongside the portfolio. Ideally the investor could choose whether the benchmark uses fixed strategic weights or the portfolio’s actual asset-class weights. This would provide a much more meaningful whole-of-portfolio comparison than comparing a diversified SMSF entirely against a 100% equity index.
